Compliance check
The policies every client is going to ask you for.
Pre-qualification questionnaires, framework applications and new client set-ups all ask for the same folder of documents. Most small contractors have half of it, out of date, written by someone who left. Below is the standard set. We will bring yours to the standard a pre-qualification assessor expects.
The standard set
What a construction business is expected to hold.
Some of these are law, some are contractual, and some are simply what buyers score you on. The right column says which is which.
Health & safety policy
Written statement, organisation and arrangements, signed and dated by a director. The first document any PQQ asks to see.
Risk assessments & method statements
Generic assessments for your trades plus a template that produces a site-specific RAMS without starting from scratch each time.
CDM duty-holder arrangements
Who does what as principal contractor or contractor: construction phase plan template, competence checks and information flow.
Environmental & waste management
Policy, duty-of-care arrangements for waste carriers and transfer notes, and the site controls that go with them.
Quality management
Quality policy, inspection and test regime, snagging and handover records — the backbone of an ISO 9001 application if you want one later.
Equality, diversity & inclusion
Policy and the recruitment and site conduct arrangements behind it. Increasingly weighted in public and framework scoring.
Anti-bribery & corruption
Policy, gifts and hospitality register, and a conflict-of-interest declaration. The adequate-procedures defence under section 7 of the Bribery Act 2010 depends on having them.
Modern slavery & labour standards
A published statement is a statutory duty above £36m turnover under the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Main contractors flow the requirement down the supply chain regardless of size.
Data protection & UK GDPR
Privacy notice, retention schedule, a breach procedure, and ICO registration where you're required to pay the data protection fee.
Whistleblowing, drugs & alcohol, disciplinary
The employment policies most main contractors ask for, including a reporting route that sits outside the line manager.
Training, competence & CPD records
A live matrix of cards, tickets and expiry dates. A frequent reason a pre-qualification is returned for more information.
Carbon reduction & sustainability
A carbon reduction plan is a condition of participation for central government contracts over £5m a year (PPN 006). The NHS, local authorities and private clients increasingly ask for the same.
Insurance schedule & financial standing
Employers’ liability (compulsory once you employ staff), public liability, contract works, and PI where you carry design, held at the limits your contracts require. Filed accounts should support the turnover you bid against.
Supply chain & subcontractor management
How you approve, monitor and pay your own subcontractors, including CIS status and the payment terms you flow down.
Accreditation schemes — SSIP members such as CHAS, SMAS and SafeContractor, plus Constructionline and the ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 standards — assess the same documents against their own question sets. Get the register right once and the applications become paperwork.
How we can help
We'll get your folder to the standard buyers expect.
Same basis as everything else: agreed scope, agreed fee, work done by us. Policies are written for how your business actually operates, not downloaded and renamed.
Gap review
Send us what you hold. You get a marked-up register: what's compliant, what's out of date, what's missing, and what a PQQ would fail you on — with the order to fix it in.
Policy drafting — Constructionline Bronze pack
Company details, insurance schedule and health & safety policy prepared for Constructionline Bronze verification, including the SSIP health & safety assessment now bundled with every tier.
PQQ and accreditation submissions
Completing the questionnaire itself — client pre-quals, framework applications, CHAS, SMAS, SafeContractor, Constructionline — and answering the assessor's follow-up questions until it's passed.
Annual refresh
Policies reviewed and re-dated once a year, renewals diarised before they lapse, and the register kept current so the next questionnaire is an afternoon's work.
Fees exclude VAT and any scheme or registration charges. We're quantity surveyors, not solicitors or safety consultants: where something needs a specialist signature — a qualified H&S competent person, or legal advice on employment terms — we'll say so and point you to one.
